LAM Mentoring

Do you want to help your community? Do you want to make a different in a student’s life? Do you want to show students their true potential?

If so then you should be a mentor or volunteer!

A mentor is a wise and trusted guide that focuses on inspiring others and EDGE-ucation organization and LAM need you! We are looking for talented and amazing people to help mentor high school students. All we ask is for a 2 semester commitment, and once you become a mentor you can choose how many students to work with.

Can’t commit to two semesters? Want to volunteer instead by helping spread the word, or come give a speech during Career Day to our students? You can do that too!

How things work for potential mentors

  • Once you decide to become a mentor, you will need to fill out a mentor form (http://latinosamorir.com/philanthropy/mentoring-program/mentor-application/), your mentee will fill a separate form
  • You will be matched with your mentee based on the industry you work at, your hobbies, and your goals
  • Once matched, you can start contacting your mentee to exchange information and set up a time where you can both meet. It can be anywhere in the Bay Area!
  • Attend an intro meeting where other mentors will also get to meet their students! You can set up partnerships and work as a group with other mentors!
  • Be ready to meet twice a month anywhere in the Bay Area (or 3 hours) and keep a minimum of 3 hours of communication (telephone, email, chats, etc) per month
  • Your meetings should focus on inspiring your student to reach his/her goals and to consider enrolling in college/university. As you meet, you will keep brief notes of your meetings.
  • At the end of each semester we will send you a survey to see how things are going

As an EDGE-ucation mentor you will be meeting with your mentee at least twice per month anywhere in the Bay Area, focusing on the personal goals and aspirations of your mentee and helping him/her achieve them. The goal is to encourage students to graduate from high school and enter college. LAM & EDGEucation will provide the necessary tools to help you become a great mentor.
